This limited edition serigraph is part of a series titled ‘The Ahmedabad Serigraphs’ which consist of 33 serigraphs done by 33 different artists each serigraph is a window to the city, as seen from the eyes of the artist, each of who has presented a central idea of Ahmedabad as testimony of their feeling for the city.
Overwhelming, is a depiction of Ahmedabad by Khambhayta through blurred figures, brisk colours and space divided by broad colour bands. This work is a beautiful depiction of the energetic and welcoming Ahmedabad. Her vibrant, bright colours are symbolic of enthusiasm, force and speed of the present day youth. She has experimented with colours in her works using high contrast as well as overlapping colours. Talking more about the colours, according to her certain colours such as tones of red, yellow, blue are very vibrant and bright, and lightens up the mood of the viewer. They’re deep yet very warm and welcoming. By incorporating them in the colour palette of this painting, she has tried to capture the emotion of the vibrant Ahmedabad, engulfed by the glittery sky. Further, Gandhiji on his charkha is a classic example to depict Ahmedabad.
