This limited edition serigraph is part of a series titled ‘The Ahmedabad Serigraphs’ which consist of 33 serigraphs done by 33 different artists each serigraph is a window to the city, as seen from the eyes of the artist, each of who has presented a central idea of Ahmedabad as testimony of their feeling for the city.
Ahmed Abad, portrays a very interesting legend associated to Sultan Ahmed Shah and his establishment of Ahmedabad city. Once Ahmed Shah was walking on the banks of Sabarmati and he noticed a tiny hare chasing his ferocious hunter dog. After pondering over it, he approached a spiritual leader and asked for explanation. This man said that, it is the uniqueness of this land and water of river Sabarmati that cultivates such rare qualities in its people. After having heard this, the Sultan got so impressed that he decided to set up the capital of Gujarat over here and he called this land Ahmedabad, “Ahmed”, after his own name and “abad” typically meaning prosperity. Further the sun and the moon here show that, this is just folklore. Only the sun and the moon would know the truth, as most of the cultures believe that the sun and the moon are “shashwat”, the one knowing the truth.
