In Ahmedabad, when an infant is sick, parents often take the infant to a tiny dwelling in the Old City, Hasti Bibi no Gokhlo. The humble shrine of Hasti Bibi is located in a Jain neighbourhood. She was an empathetic muslim woman who had the ability to heal people through laughter which has also accorded to her saint like status. She does not stop to check whether the teary eyes of the parents are of a Hindu or Muslim. The belief is that she was given a boon by Allah that whoever comes to her doorstep with any worries will be smiling towards the end of their stay due to her pious nature and devotion. This work of Patel’s revolves around this story and set in the background of a green colour, which is considered very powerful in the muslim community.
