This limited edition serigraph is part of a series titled ‘The Ahmedabad Serigraphs’ which consist of 33 serigraphs done by 33 different artists each serigraph is a window to the city, as seen from the eyes of the artist, each of who has presented a central idea of Ahmedabad as testimony of their feeling for the city.

Having the sense of belonging with Hyderabad, and viewing Ahmedabad as an outsider gives us a fresh perspective. The common aspect, around which Kumar anchors his perspectives of these two cities, are the two respective rivers, Musi River in Hyderabad, and the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad. He observes how the river divides Ahmedabad geographically, yet how culturally well blended it is. Here he illustrates a typical Pol house of Ahmedabad, highlighting its carvings and the layouts, in the lower half of the artwork. Divided by the ‘golden river’ the upper half of the canvas shows how urbanization has introduced itself to this city,
yet retaining the richness of its old heritage. Further working both of these aspects inside a single folder of a built structure, strongly conveys the artist’s message. Further the pale background and colour peeling off from a few places, gives the texture of wall paints and emulsions.
